Core Values and the state of Societies youth.

Having previously been employed by HM the Queen during my short stint in the army i was lucky enough to be given instructions in leadership and the morals and values that all good men should strive to. Now having lived apart from my War'y brothers on the otherside of the wire as it were, and sadly having to spend time with other mere mortals i have seen the cracks and flaws that reside in many of the younger generations and among some of my peers.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS
DISCIPLINE
INTEGRITY
HONOUR
SELFLESS COMMITMANT
COURAGE

now take todays youth/young adult. how can he be expected to live by these?
lets start with the most obvious for me - Respect for others, theres two ways of thought on this in todays society ; firstly every new person has to earn the respect of you. secondly that person recieves respect unless they do something to break that. My outlook is the second , however most people today seem to live by the first - take youths harrassing older generations. luckily i was brought up to respect my elders, nowadays though much of the teaching of this has been removed due to bad parenting, and also single parenting meaning too little time spent with the child because of work. My advice - Give respect to others and gain extra though earning it.

next should be discipline - why? well again taking an example from popular news - binge drinking. know thy limits. if you cannot be disciplined to act acording to the situation your personal record amongst friends and peers will come to harm. the easiest form of discipline is turning up on time ... and on sooooo many occasions is un-adhered to. Aim for 5 mins before and people will give you respect for your discipline. this also works well when it comes to love life- never leave your lady (or man) waiting - And if your caught out by unforseen circumstances call that person to let them know [ sadly im having to do this one alot at the moment and its one thing i would love to change]

Integrity, if only the world could be like liar liar (the film) and everybody tell the truth. Being honest and truthful leads to great things in the long term - sadly too much this is scorned - noticably by polititians and also the media. The fear of reprisals for even the smallest lie can which can end up mothballing into catastrophic disasters usually wins out. However much pain it causes the sooner its dealt with the better for all.

Honour- im going to skip this one as i could talk for hours and i hope anyone reading this should understand that personal honour should be strived for at all things.

Next on the list is Selfless commitment - or in more plain words - doing what needs to be done without the thought for person gain. points the preverbial stick again at politicians the world over.-Yes You...
The 80's film Wallstreet really summed this one up for all the reason this is so hard to accumplish " GREED IS GOOD" - money does make the world go round - but if you can do something for others that is not for your own benifit then good on you. Charity starts at home. so start small and begin with your friends - sadly todays charitys (not all) have become too big and therefore fail to do there aim.

The soldiers friend - Courage. but every person should have courage - the courage to do whats right -and i have left this one till last as all of the above can be achieved by a little courage. Again i could write for hours on the subject so i will leave it to this, make time to have courage and it wont fail you when you need it most.

I hope anyone that reads this gains some benifit from it and in turn passes it on to others by word or by deed.

Thoughts on The New Robin Hood

Well I thought I would define my views on the New RH film today as a starter.

I saw it this weekend after hearing much promotion about it - both good and bad.

Firstly let me start off with one of the negatives that came to light - the now infamous R.Crow interview where he walks on the Interviewer- which can be found here. Apart from the Interviewer M.Lawson being negative from the get go, personally I think that Mr Crow had every right to walk out for essentially being abused throughout, even though the "Irish accent" comment was not far from the truth. Sadly as in all today's stories the media has done its worst.

Back to my thoughts - well the film was enjoyable, not as grandstanding as Prince of thieves or the original Hood film. It portrays Robin as lowly archer amongst King Richards forces in France who through deceit and also honour returns to England and becomes the adopted son of Lord Loxely (I am trying not to give too much away). The Film then careers through a lull state of narrative to the point of Action - The Invasion of England by France (a made up act- otherwise there would be at least some form of history regarding the fact.) Which was both the best bit of action footage I have seen for a while that hasn't been CG'd to the 10th, and also the worst - Mr Ridly Scott i think hath doth'ed his hat to Saving Private Ryans now famous Normandy landings, with soldiers on the cliffs and the beach assaulters coming in on landing craft - yet in this case wooden versions of them. Sadly at the time of writing I cannot find a suitable image. I am wondering just how Historically accurate their design is.

Other Members of the cast saw some fine acting by William Hurt as the Marshall, and the Mark Strong as the Devious Godfrey. A solid performance by Cate Blanchette as Lady Marion, However my favourites go to a fantastic Will Scarlett played by Scott Grimes and a Jolly Friar Tuck by Mark Addy.

My thoughts on the accent - well sorry Mr Crow - i do admit in the opening parts of the film your accent does sound a wee bit Irish - but only just noticeably and being honest after this you do not really hear it after, I equate it to sounding similar to Mel Gibsons Braveheart - a worthy effort but not spot on.

So yes - i would definitely go to watch this at the cinema and to me this film does a good effort of bringing one of England's hero's to life along with a successful twisting of any myths surrounding him. Well done Mr Crow for some great acting - I think Ridley Scott did some amazing filmography - but for me it was the other cast, the costumes and the locations that really made this shine.
I for one am glad that it did not become A N Other Gladiator.

Robin Hood is out now in the US and the UK.

Day 1 - Thoughts of a destablelised mind -

or why am I inside on such a glorious day.

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen and all other entities - it is I the EG and today I have to
decide what it really is that I wish to talk about on theis here Bloggity.

Theres so many different facets to my life that i am unsure of really what I wish to portray to you. Being a Graphic Designer im wanting to bring in some of my views on designs I am working on, but I dont wish this to be my sole mainpiece. I also want to bring in some of my hobbies and probably alot of my views on todays society - especially on the distinct failure of men to be Men and also the lapse in refined taste - where aethsetics and fads overshadow good design and longevity.

So where does this leave me? 0.o
well first off I will probably keep dropping in general day to day random thoughts.
Secondly a few of my favourite online sites/videos/webpages
Thirdly a large rambling of my away from keyboard antics, including books and films.

So there we have it. Let us see where this journey takes us and most of all I thankyou for coming along for the trip.
